pavillion next to the stall of His Lordship, Captain Thorpe and his
ladywife, The Honorable Lady Fionnghuala inghean Diarmada, whose
companie was a delight to share. Our pavillion also made host to His
Excellency Boris Dragons Bane and his lovely ladywife. The tournament
ended with Duncan von Halstern victorious, fighting for the honour of
Ilish O'Donovan. As the tournament closed, the winds rose strong to
greet the new heirs, and the populace retired to the comforts of the
hall. Gyles and Alheydis received the unhappy notice from the manor
that Ciarán has been injured and was en route to see the bone
setter. Knowing that the many miles between the lists and the manor
would prevent their direct attendance, they consoled themselves with
the companionship of friends and a most sumptuous and succulent feast
above the salt.

Aheydis played upon her dulcimer in the great Risley Hall. Feast was
announced with Norse wit and jest, and those of Manor de Blair dined
upon capon, rabbit, venison, beef and pork. Owing, as ever, to the
skill of Myrkfaelinn's cooks and the bounty of its larder, none of the
Manor groaned in hunger, though the boards groaned under the weight of
copious removes, between which there was played for the delight of all,
a play of a Norse saga, followed by the reading the Wife's Lament in
our English forebearers tongue. The manor's table was grace by the
presence of Captain Thorpe, who gave excellent discourse on all manner
of things, and who then joined Alheydis and Gyles in providing music

PENNSIC
XXXI - Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands [PHOTOS]
Ab
septimo Idus Augusti ad decimo sexto Kalendas Septembris, beginning on
the feast of Saint Donatus and ending on eve of the feast of Saint
Agapitus, anno societatis XXXVII, in the reign of King James II and Queen Elina II.
Week
the first: Gyles and Alheydis did make their first journey to the Great
Pennsic
War, and made camp among High Rafters in the lands of Clan Yama
Kaminari as the guests of
Lord Christopher Harper. Alheydis did set herself to learn the art of
drumming under the tutelage of Master Daveed. Each night, she sought
fellow drummers among the hearths of the war camps, accompanied and
protected by Gyles who played upon his guitar. One night, the drumming
was most primitive and ancient, whilst on the next night, the rhythms
were those of the Persian and Ottoman court. On one evening, when no
drums were to be heard, they strode forth with Lord Boris and Damian to
the Oasis, whereupon they sat to make revel of their own. As would oft
happen, their revel did attract the presence of others, and as the
eventide turned to true night, their company had swelled to full forty
or more.
Week
the second: Gyles did journey home to attend the business of the manor,
while Alheydis was joined by Moire Ælfgyfu, Jan and Tashi. It was
at this time that Alheydis did purchase a dumbek from merchants of Asia
Minor. The
hearth of High Rafters proved most delightful, and good friendships
were forged there by the dancing fire, made gloriously colorful by
feats of alchemy.
Alheydis did attend many lectures at the university, learning the
history of the fashions of headcovering and the means by which buttons
may be made of cloth and used for fastening cotes. She also studied the
nature of clothing in the century previous to her own, being the
twelfth century as reckoned from the nativity of our Lord. Sadly,
Alheydis did sustain injury to her right shoulder, in the wake of the
drumming of the previous week, and she was forced to seek the
attentions of the chirurgeons and the Japanese masseurs of Clan Yama
Kaminari. On the final day of war, Jan and Aheydis did climb into the
tall tower of the castle to witness the great final field battle. Tashi
attended as well, escorted by Corwin, whose attentions she had
attracted,

Gyles

It was in these years
that Gyles and Alheydis, together with their house, were engaged as
musicians in foreign lands at the abbey of the Trinity. They travelled
to many abbeys and cathedrals, and entertained in all manner of hall
and court. When treachery was revealed and enemies made known, Gyles
and Alheydis purposed themselves to return to the sylvan lands of
Æthelmearc, where they had once known kindness and welcome.

It was in this year that
the House of Blair did first sojourn among the people of the Sylvan
